oreodont Posted January 5, 2008 This is a tooth of the Hemipristis serra shark (lower?) of the California Monterey Formation. Tooth was quickly burried after deposition...no transport, as the tooth is in excellant condition. Link to comment
siteseer Posted June 14, 2010 The base of the Monterey is Middle Miocene in age and runs up into the Late Miocene. There were areas in Orange County, CA where a lot of teeth were found in the basal Monterey but they are very rare finds in the upper part. Link to comment
