Stratigraphy: Pinecrest Sand Member of the Tamiami Formation
Location: APAC, Sarasota County, Florida USA.
Status: Extinct
Notes: Most Plicofusus in the Pinecrest have been referred to as P. scalarina, however they appear closer to the Pliocene forms from the Carolinas. P. acuta has fewer, but more prominent ribs than P. scalarina as well as more angulated whorls.
