@Dean Ruocco @NickG somewhat embarrassingly I cannot tell if this is a bivalve, a brachiopod (or a fragment of either), or a Dipleura pygidium? It has a texture that reminds me of Dipleura but my other example does not have the concentric lines. Any ideas?

I think it is actually a Dipleura pygidium, looks very similar to this:
