Bony Fish Vertebra

Thanks to @Al Dente for pointing out that is in fact a bony fish vertebra, not a lamnoid shark vert.

Interesting, what indicators define shark vs bony fish?

I am now noticing that the center is not very concave... is that indicative of a negative on shark?

Just trying to learn here, I appreciate you taking the time to post.

The texture in this photo is typical for some (not all) fish bone. It’s never seen in shark centra. Lamniform shark centra usually have parallel septa around the edge. Your vert is asymmetrical which happens in a few shark and ray centra but usually shark and ray centra are round.

Thank you so much for the info!  I'll be saving that for future reference. 

I'll correct this image post to fish vertebra- I'm glad I didn't put 'Shark vertebra' directly in the photos :)
