astron
A plate I like here. It bears a betulaceae (family) leaf, the bigger one I have found so far next to some plantation fragments. Edited December 11, 2012 by astron Astrinos P. MB
Excellent, Alex!!! A hearty thanks so for the id, as for your nice words and infos, that I keep in mind... It's unbelievable, but a while before your reference to decapods, I had found in my village (late miocene) the specimen in the attached pic and I think it's my first fossil of these animals (possibly a crayfish?)!!!!!!! Not a good preservation but enough for your imediate confirmation!!!!!!!!! Amazing!!! I can't still believe what has happened!!! :o Thanks again Hi Astrinos, I'm sorry by the late answer, but I see it now in the fossil of the month contest... listen, I'm not very good on macruran crustaceans (if I'm good at something...) but it seems me an interesting thing, perhaps better pictures, and a proposal for study if it is something new could be done ... http://www.mbfossilcrabs.com/
Wrangellian
'' Steve T, I'd like very much to be in touch with a paleontologist and I have tried it but there isn't any neither in the N.H.Museum of our city of Iraklion, nor in the local University....... '' Astron... Looks like the jobs yours then, Your the expert ... That's what I've been trying to tell him! Thanks for the backup
astron
...(if I'm good at something...)... It's about a nice guy good at everything he does... Hi Astrinos, ... but it seems me an interesting thing, perhaps better pictures, and a proposal for study if it is something new could be done ... Agreed, Alex. My comparison to several specimens indicate strange differencies... Though, the preservation of this one is not very good and the attached pic is the best of at about one hundred I have taken. So, the appropriate solution could be an in person examination by an expert, that is impossible at least at the moment... I keep it in mind.. Thanks a lot for the help Edited August 8, 2012 by astron Astrinos P. Damianakis

Ramo
WOW!!!! I don't know how, but I've missed this thread until today. I've just spent over an hour looking at all these awesome finds! I remember the thing on post 354 posted on "Fossil ID". Did you ever get a positive ID on what that thing is? Very impressive collection. You should be proud astron. Ramo Thanks a lot, Ramo, so for the nice comments as for the good question It's definitely about a fish skull as I have realised and confirmed afterwards!!! Unfortunatelly, I found it when completely unexperienced on the fishy material, as it was of my very first finds of this kind. Thanks again for your post. Astrinos P. astron
Hello all. Just two things for today. An old and a new ones. On this post, the old specimen... already presented on the post 833 of my collection and commented as following: ''One more puzle is closing the day. What that tiny thing with the long ''tail'' next to the quercus mediterranea leaf could be??? Maybe a seed, a bulb or what? Who knows....'' After my search on it, I think it's about a flower stamen or pistol of some type ... !!! Attached Thumbnails Astrinos P. Damianakis
astron
One of my favorite finds is going to close this round of my recent plant material. It's about a plantation slab 25 x 15 cm found on 03 of August in my hunting area (late miocene sediments of middle Crete island, Greece) and bearig two main fossils: 1.The bigger and ''w'' like one is 11 x 11 cm in the largest dimensions. After searcing for hours on it, I think, it could be pinus sp. flower heads. Any opinions on it would be appropriately appreciated and 2.A small poaceae sp. (grass) flower. It's 1,6 cm tall (with the stem) and 0,8 cm in diameter. Attached to this post are 3 over all views and to the next two posts the two fossils in detail. Astrinos P. astron
And finally four pics of the flower. astron
Hi Astrinos, Just wanted to say γειa... tikanis, Fantastic fossils as usual. Hi,Scott Since I have entered the Forum every post of yours makes me feeling better, more over if it concerns me, even more if it's mixed up with my language and much more if it comes when your time is compressed, as I think it happens the last period of time!!! Thank you very much for all this... Edited August 14, 2012 by astron Astrinos P. Damianakis
astron
Hello all. Coprolites witness the existance of mamals in my hunting area. astron
And finally two fishes. Pic 1. A 7 cm sprattelloides gracillis fish and Pic 2. The 15 cm odd pipefish, that had partcipated to the July FOTM contest. I think that this one worths much more than the first looking indicates and that an in hand examination by an ichthyologist could have surprices to provide. Unfortunately, no possible at the moment...!!! Edited August 17, 2012 by astron Astrinos P. Damianakis
