    New Member From Michigan

Hello! I’m from southeast Michigan but I’ve also collected in OH, PA, NJ, MD, and VA on a handful of trips. Another of which I’m going on in a week, down to NJ and MD with lots of stops in PA, back to a few spots I’ve been before, with some new ones along the way. I’m currently in my third year as a dual environmental science and geology undergrad, and hoping to go further in my education towards paleontology. I’m not currently in any of my local clubs, I do plan to join some after my trip, but I am a member of the AIPG chapter at my university. I’m looking forward to meeting new people with a similar passion and I will appreciate the help with identification. And if there’s any fellow local fossil hunters give me a shout.

    Devonian disaster

I just moved to Pennsylvania USA and live on land with fossils. other then crinoids I am trying to learn what all of these are. I could use some help. From the Mahantango formation of the Devonian.
  6. Hello all! I went on a trip last weekend for fossil ferns around the Pottsville/St. Clair area and found something I think is interesting. Is this a seed pod or something different? As always, all help is greatly appreciated! @historianmichael
  7. Bringing Fossils to Life

    Hi Everyone!

Hi everyone! I'm new here and want to introduce myself. I started fossil hunting about a year ago, but have been interested in fossils and prehistoric life for over three years now. I am primarily a paleoartist and researcher, and specialize on Paleozoic cephalopods (especially Devonian ones). I have trouble with Greenops-like trilobites and fossil fish ID, but would love to help with Mahantango ammonoids and nautiloids. I only have access to free online papers, so if there is another way to read the Treatice on Invertebrate Paleontology, I would love to know. I have a website, at http://bringingfossilstolife.infinityfreeapp.com/, that I post my paleoart and recaps of some of my recent fossil hunts on.

  11. Hello everyone! Last summer when going on a trip to PA I stopped by a site where some Mahantango formation material was found, The finds weren't anything too spectacular or plentiful but it was still a nice place to stop by. While there I picked up quite a few concretions just to see if anything is in them, and for a few months they stayed outside to weather and break down a bit. Most of them were completely devoid of anything but one did reveal this interesting little fossil. The whole thing is about 2 cm long and 2mm in width, it has some neat branching to it. I initially thought it was a bryozoan and didn't really think much of it otherwise but after getting to cut it from the large concretion and examine it closer it appears to be carbonized? The whole thing is much darker than the surrounding matrix except for a few parts covered in pyrite, and looking under magnifiation it appears that the fossil has some striations going along its length, it might still be a bryozoan but these thing made me question that ID. Does anyone know what this might really be?
  12. History Hunter02

    Hello From Pennsylvania

Hi, I live in Western Pennsylvania. I am an Eagle Scout and am a armature fossil collector and love hunting for them on the beach. One of my favorite finds on the beach is a 15 pound chunk of leg bone from a mammoth/mastodon. I enjoy coin collecting and wish to get a Ph.D. in historical archaeology.
