I went back to a new spot on POC and found the typical array of broken shark teeth, a few Ptychodus teeth, and some interesting items I'm not really sure about. Anyone have an idea of what the item in pictures 6-8 are? What about 9-11 maybe coprolite or a fossilized crustacean? The item in pictures 12-14 appears to be a tooth but with no enamel I didn't think it was a shark tip. It could also just be a piece of bone or something. Sorry for the poor picture quality of that one but I will take better ones of it later. Im pretty sure picture 15 is a rudist and lastly the item in pictures 16-18 I think is just a coincidentally formed rock. The rest of the pictures are of some cool items like the shark or fish verts, the small fossilized crab claw, a broken piece of sawfish rostrum, and a few cool pieces of matrix with inclusions.

Nice array of finds as usual! Another Ptychodus mortoni???!

6-8: coral? No idea. :headscratch:

9-11: crustacean

12-14: don't think it's a tooth, not sure it's anything...

15: not sure with one picture, think it's rock

16-18: rock

6-8 are images of a Durania sp. rudist fragment.

Wow, having POC flashbacks looking at those close-ups ... seems like I always find a ton of stuff there that looks like it’s SOMETHING, but I just have no idea WHAT.  =)  Glad to see you getting id’s. Nice!  Love the verts too. Were you filtering matrix onsite while you were there? For all the small/tiny finds? Or examining matrix under magnification after the fact?

Thanks. I was surprised about the new mortoni but now it makes we want to go out and find ALL the other varieties. Luckily I have heard of places in Texas where several other varieties can be found.

15 was confirmed rudist and 16-18 definitely a rock.

Most of these were surface finds with a couple hours of sifting too using a 1/4” sifter. I don’t have any micros here but a few months back I collected a couple gallons of matrix and have been slowly filtering it, mostly just by plain sight because the microscope isn’t providing great clarity. I have found tons of small shark teeth, ray teeth, a few verts, and several unknowns. One of these days I will get around to posting all the cool micros I have found.
