Ivory Artifacts

Well... I decided it was time to let the cat out of the bag. Several of you have heard about these, but I don't think anyone on this board has seen them yet. About six months ago, while some divers were working sinkhole in the middle of a swamp on private property some very rare ivory artifacts were discovered. It is fairly uncommon to find direct signs of interaction between man and extinct megafauna, and among these findings, the most highly prized are those of worked ivory. These are likely made from mastodon ivory, as this was the only ivory bearing animal found at this site. Attached are pictures of two of the six ivory pieces that were found. Also found was a partial Clovis point which is believe to have broken in the haft also fracturing the distal end of the larger foreshaft. Enjoy!!

Stunning. And everyone, stand by. I'll be photographing some astounding finds a friend of mine has made over the years. I'm talking artifacts that will knock your socks off. I'll be doing it next Saturday afternoon.

Maybe I'll have my socks back on by then; have to find 'em first...

Hey Nate, you can keep posting more photos, because some things need to be seen in all kinds of light. Outstanding finds - fossil artifacts!

Is it a likely scenario that these were lost in the struggle and kill of a megabeast trapped in the sinkhole?

Very likely scenario. From what I heard there were two adult mastodons there.
