Giving Thanks For Fossils Part 1

Thought I would celebrate Thanksgiving by sharing some photos of my small but fun Miocene collection. The vast majority of the bivalves in the pictures are entire. This bunch is from Calvert Co. Photo 1 is an assortment of microfossils including lunatia sp., and several discinisca. Most of the rest are pretty obvious. Photo 11 is all from Calvert Co except the meg, which is from off the coast of Hyde Co, NC. Photos 12 and 14 show shells with all of the smaller shells found inside it when the matrix was washed away. Photo 18 is a shot of 3 entire panopeas, all found together in the same block of cliff fall. Enjoy

Very nice collection! I got to go to the Calvert Cliffs twice while I was working at NASA HQ in DC in 2007-2008 and I collected a few nice specimens, but nothing quite so nice as these. Well done.
