Hi guys,

I acquired this coral from a trade,

It is from the Devonian of Morocco and I have not been successful in finding a proper ID for it.

Any help is appreciated,

Thank you.

Misha

What size is it?

It may be a heliolitid - there seem to be 12 rays which is right and some heliolitids have coenenchyme that makes that pattern radiating from the 12 septa.

I have a Heliolites porosus from there but that's not right, so perhaps something like this Silurian Pycnolithus from the Treatise.

(I wouldn't necessarily trust the period you've been told - loads of dealer's supposed Moroccan Devonian stuff actually isn't!)

Or something else entirely, perhaps bryozoan...

Thank you for the suggestions, didn't even consider it may be a heliolitid.

I don't have any other information on the piece,

Here are some other pictures with a scale.

Thank you - the scale is right for heliolitid. Here's my Moroccan H. porosus. It has similar weathering, with the mineral filled original voids in positive relief.
