bthemoose
I found this at Matoaka Beach (Miocene exposure) in Maryland the other day. Does this look like an osteoderm, or something else? Thanks for your help!
Harry Pristis
Osteoderms from any of the animals with which I am familiar don't have the trabecular bone to the degree your find has. I think this is more likely to be a epiphysis of some very worn long bone. (I am tempted to guess turtle or crocadilian, but that's a just a vague impression.) 3 http://pristis.wix.com/the-demijohn-page What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? ---Shakespeare, The Tempest
