Just Bob
Went creek hopping with Lordpiney in Monmouth Co. , New Jersey. Had another great time searching the gravel bars with Phil. I must be Phil's lucky rabbit's foot - this is the third time I have gone out with him and he found yet another mosasaur tooth (that I walked by twice), not as big as the other but in great shape. That makes two mosasaur teeth and one plesiosaur tooth. I am telling you, he has an eye for them. We did manage to find some other nice things as well. These are a few of the highlights for me. Some Cretaceous sharks teeth and vertebra. Gastropods. Broken Reptile teeth. Ghost shrimp claws with what Phil believes is some type of lobster claw. This one is kind of neat, on the one side it has an imprint of an ammonite. The other side has a Ghost shrimp claw in matrix. Cretaceous or not, when it comes down to it, it's still just shark poo. a dermal scute of some kind of rays. My prize find for the day, a rare fish jaw. Notice it still has the teeth in it. Another first for me. When I find an ID for it I will post it. Another look. Phil intently searching for goodies. Teeth in situ. Phil's beautiful mosasaur tooth. Phil by the waterfalls, well, Jersey waterfalls anyway. Me. All and all another great day with great company. barefootgirl
That's a nice sized squalicorax! Looks like both of you did real good. I cant wait to hear what kind of fish jaw that is. But I did almost take a spill that seem to amused Phil. "It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends upon his not understanding it." Just Bob
Hey Phil, you should do a macro on the mosasaur tooth, I thought that the enamel on it was great. By the way, i found the id on the fish jaw, it was a enchodus fish jaw. I was told there is no way to tell exactly what species it is because of the size but that the Enchodus Petrosus is the most common found at the location we were at.
