Unknown scales found

Hello I found this on the beach today. Not sure if it's a fossil or just hardened mud. Found at galley hill, Bexhill, East Sussex. Close to Weldon clay formations

This looks like an ironstone septarian concretion/nodule.

I agree with you. Usually fossils have bone marrow around the edges (usually many pores).
