Fish skin imprint?

Recommended Posts

While cleaning conodonts (and the next object to follow this topic), I came across this "imprint"? It isn't a defined shape, but has a very uniform pattern. Thinking fish skin? It looks a lot like the Iniopterygian I found a couple months ago but the "scales" are smaller?.....I'll let ya'll decide or comment!!   Thanks!!  Bone

I think you mean that the age is Pennsylvanian, rather than telling us it came from two states that are 1000 miles apart   : )

Hard to tell. I suppose this could be a bit of chondrichthyan skin or degraded calcified cartilage, but I can't tell without a closer look at the small elements.

Ok-thank you!. I have the positive and negative portions and can get even closer pics. I can also remove/lift the "carbonized" covering to see if anything more significant is revealed. Appreciate the time looking at this!!!
