New Members Nogo_loki Posted March 23, 2021 New Members Share Posted March 23, 2021 I found this bone on the top of clay with waves washing over it. I have no idea if it is old but it looks that way! I'm looking for someone to help me identify it!
Rockwood
Only slightly educated guess. Crocodilian humerus ?
Fossildude19
Looks more like a mammal humerus, to me. Maybe pig? A burn test might tell us more. Hold a flame against a portion of the bone. If it burns, gives off an odor of burnt hair, or blackens, it is likely "modern". EDIT: Welcome to the Forum. jpc
I think it is a cow humerus. That is my semieducated guess but it might be too small for a cow. I don't know much about pig anatomy. How big is it? The wheel doesn't give terribly good scale.
LordTrilobite
It looks a bit small. Definitely the humerus of a decently sized mammal tho. Olof Moleman AKA Lord Trilobite

Boesse
I think cow is most likely, but comparisons with bison - size in particular - are probably warranted.
