New Members annae123 Posted March 25, 2021 New Members Share Posted March 25, 2021 Hi! I live in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, and my kids found this in our backyard. We were trying to find out whether the black bumps might be some sort of fossil. The bumps are about 4 mm in diameter. Any thoughts? Thank you! Fossildude19
Welcome to the Forum. Neat looking item. My first instinct is that this is some sort of mineral inclusion/aggregation. But the line to the right of the cluster of rounded elements is intriguing. The photos are too blurry to see any detail, however. I think this is something that may need to be looked at in hand to make any final determination. Mahnmut
Hello, I am not sure, but the second pic makes me think of garnet (pyrope or almandine) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Almandine They are often found in clusters of crystals in slate. New Members annae123 Posted March 25, 2021 Author New Members Share Posted March 25, 2021 Thank you so much! Try as I might those seem to be the best pics I can get with my phone camera and my regular camera unfortunately is out of commission, but I really appreciate your insight! So glad to have found this page. We're going to try to learn more about fossils, so I'm sure we're going to enjoy having a look around at all the different posts. Sealed fracture in the sedimentary rock which facilitated the accumulation the mineral inclusion during metamorphosis.
