tombk
I found this in Decorah Iowa at a road cut. I don’t know whether it is from the Decorah Formation, though. I used a thin, stiff wire to scrape away some of the matrix. I wonder whether it is the lower part of a trilobite. Thanks for any thoughts! Fossildude19
Looks like maybe an Isotelus sp. pygidium. @piranha 1 1 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." Huntonia
Looks like a pygidium to me, afraid I can't help much more with the ID. Neat find, have you found any other trilobite material there?

Neat find, have you found any other trilobite material there? I did not find any other trilobite material there. I only had two hours to look, though. I had driven there with my daughter to visit Luther College, which is in Decorah. But she’ll be starting college there this fall, so I’ll have plenty of time to search around later! We drove past many interesting-looking road cuts right around town.
