New Members Stan Posted May 31, 2021 New Members Share Posted May 31, 2021 (edited) I keep finding partially fossilized or mineralized bones in our yard. We're about two miles from the mouth of Weber canyon Davis County Utah. Found some mineralized snail shells in the same area as the bones. We know that before highway 84 was built, our house would have been on the edge of the river. Any help identifying would be greatly appreciated. Rockwood
The break almost looks like that typical of a fresh bone break, but it looks like that happened a long long time ago. This sure looks like a fossil to me. Someone should recognize that end and have this IDed.
New Members Stan Posted June 2, 2021 Author New Members Share Posted June 2, 2021 I was thinking maybe Bison. I think it's too small to be a camel. Given that it was in the same gravel layer as the shells I'm suspecting the Provo level of Lake Bonneville.
Rockwood
Seems reasonable. It's a little beyond my knowledge though. The shells would be a secondary indication that would be more useful in confirming a known layer I suspect. It could be that no one familiar with the area has noticed this.
