New Members flipafossil Posted July 7, 2021 New Members Share Posted July 7, 2021 I purchased a box of rocks and minerals at an estate sale. I noticed the translucent texture of this "rock" and have never seen such an appearance of a rock. While studying the fossil it appears to be some sort of egg fossil. I have no prior experience with fossils other than buying some at museums as a child. But this fossil is fascinating to me! I humbly ask for opinions as to what type of fossil I have. Thank you all in advance for sharing!
FranzBernhard
Welcome to TFF from Austria! Sorry to disappoint, but this is not a fossil. It could either be a flint/chert nodule (sedimentary), jasper or some kind of chalcedony void filling from a volcanic rock. It seems to be river worn, too. Ludwigia
There is a remote possibility that this is a mineralized internal cast of a bivalve. No egg at any rate. Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Roger http://www.steinkern.de/
Fossildude19
This appears to be a weathered chert nodule, and not an egg, unfortunately. Welcome to the Forum. abyssunder
No, not an egg, unfortunately.
