Crusty_Crab
This is Cuterebra ascarides (Scudder, 1877). Members of the genus Cuterebra are botflies, which are known to parasitize mammals, burrowing through the flesh under the skin. The thought of a 1 cm+ maggot burrowing under my skin is pretty scary to me. 1

But it definitely fit as a scary fossil. 1 1 One fossil a day will keep you happy all day. Welcome to the FOSSIL ART

As a veterinarian, I loved botfly season. A dog or cat would present with a small diagnostic hole in its skin. A quick little enlargement with a scalpel blade and then tweezers and out popped a fat wiggly maggot!!! The look on clients' faces were "precious". Thanks for bringing back memories for me.
