Rockwood
I know this couldn't be the counter in front of me, but it looks almost like it. The dark pieces are very likely fossil wood. One would need a closer look at the texture to be certain however. It would be partially mineralized lignite. The dalmation stone looks like a bio-eroded oyster. The dark spots being bore holes in the shell. The mineral is a concretion. They often contain fossils, but not always. The smooth rocks from black to tan look like rocks to me. ' not sure the names. Is that label gabro ? It could be a darker grade of it, but that is a plutonic rock type that usually has a greater percentage of quartz in it. The triangular shaped one labeled fossil needs a better look, but I don't recognize it as a fossil as is.
New Members Quitter Posted October 27, 2021 Author New Members Share Posted October 27, 2021 Thank you, didn’t mean to get the extra rocks in the photo. The wood seems like almost solid quartzite like. Very new to this hobby
Rockwood
1 hour ago, Quitter said: like almost solid quartzite Some is quite hard. The texture is what indicates wood. It should have the fiberous look that modern wood has. Some is more layered looking, some a bit less. Sometimes it grades into a coal like look, but without that texture it is difficult to be certain.
