Just to let you all know that I'll be leaving tomorrow for a week's holiday in Vosges with my wife, daughter and granddaughter. I'm not sure if I'll have internet access there where we're staying, so you may not hear from me for a while. No fossiling planned this time, just enjoying the back woods in the Variscan Orogeny.

Is there any fall foliage left for you to see? Do the Germans go mad over fall foliage like they do in the US, especially in the NE?

My goal is to leave no stone or fossil unturned.

Yes , there are some very nice colors spreading through the woods right now, but we don't have quite as many blazing maples as you do over there in the NE and Canada.

Yes. And I learned a few new things. Like for instance that this is the valley where that famous Munster cheese originated and that the reindeer farm at 1000 meters on the slopes of the Tanet mountains has a restaurant that makes fantastic crepes.
