Frank Menser
Good weather (almost) after a few days of on and off rain. Despite a gloomy looking sky I stopped off at thepond (E. North Carolina) and did some walking. Almost imediatly I was rewarded with a nice Enchodus tooth. I found several jaw parts and some more teeth. I also found several shark teeth, one of which is posted in the ID section. There was this curious 3" Belemite with an oddly bulbous end. The heart break of the day was a Mosasaur tooth I found that had been shattered, apparently by someone stepping on it. I salvaged what I could and am applying Elmer's Glue. In all not a bad day for the location. Edited March 18, 2010 by Frank Menser Be true to the reality you create.
FossilDAWG
I've seen a few examples of where belemnites fractured the guard, perhaps in a collision with another belemnite, but survived and had the guard heal "off kilter" or with a bumpy scar at the break. Perhaps your specimen went through something like that. Looks like you had a good day all in all. Don
Shamalama
Nice Turritela casts (I had to pick the invert fossil, I know). -Dave __________________________________________________ Geologists on the whole are inconsistent drivers. barefootgirl
Like your finds Frank and I love the orange color on those teeth.
