Unidentified Texas River Fossil

I came across this on a beach along the Trinity River in Texas in Liberty County, near Liberty.  I have found a number of fossil horse teeth there previously.  This seems a lot like a tooth, maybe.  The other teeth I found were obvious horse molars.  This doesn't look like a horses tooth.  Maybe it isn't a tooth, but it is a fossil.  There is a black shiny material that has obviously been stripped off of one side.  It is rather smooth.  I hope these pictures are good enough.  Since I don't know what it is, I had trouble coming up with Tags.

Looks like a piece of a tooth to me.

Not sure there is enough there to say anything further about it, however.

Yes, that is what I think.  But what type of animal.  It isn't sharp, but it might have been before the dark black outer layer was stripped off. I don't think horses have teeth like this.

Better lit photos might illustrate that you probably found part of a mammoth tooth.
