Possible fossil found near Weymouth, UK

Hi there!

I'm looking for an ID on this possible fossil. It was found near Weymouth in the UK, is about 1.1cm long, and feels like stone.

Is it maybe some kind of tooth?

Thanks!

Hi, welcome to the fossil forum!

I'm not very familiar with that area, but what you have there looks like a piece of petrified wood.

A quick search showed that there is a Jurassic petrified forest only a few Kilometers to the east of Weymouth, so I'd say it's probably from that.

Hi, could do with a view of the ends of the item but it looks to me like a fragment of recent mammal tooth, could be horse or cow. I have seen similar looking items (colour / shape) found on the Isle of Wight which are modern mammal teeth, but a picture of the ends could confirm.
