ynot Posted January 7, 2023 Share Posted January 7, 2023 Fire agate is a chalcedony with layers of crystalized iron minerals (goethite or hematite), that forms in volcanic rock. The iron layers are typically a dark brown and most do not show any color. flash The agate often has to be polished for the color flash to be seen. The material shown does look like the right type of agate, but I can not see any fire in the pictures. 1 Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Many, many moons ago, I collected some fire agates along our shared state line border...they looked just like this...I would bet with the right lighting you could capture those great "firey" flashes. 1 "I am glad I shall never be young without wild country to be young in.
