Hello,

56 year old new member here. I enjoy looking for fossils as a child and I found this piece of petrified wood on our property yesterday. Anyone had any information about petrified wood in northeastern Ohio?

Welcome to the Forum. :)

Sorry, can't help with the petrified wood, if that is what it is.

Mother nature creates lots of lookalikes, and Ohio always has the possibility of glacial erratics.

welcome to TFF

fossil wood, why not, looks a bit like

I do not have this paper: Petrified Wood in Ohio: Rocks & Minerals: Vol 26, No 5-6 (tandfonline.com)

perhaps one of the TFF member has it

When I search for petrified wood Ohio it looks like that many has been found. We have had several pieces of petrified wood from US but never one from Ohio

Thank you. I found that partial paper online too. I have some petrified wood from Arizona that I gotten as a child, and this picture looks and feels like petrified wood, but a different type of tree. Seems like most petrified wood found in Ohio is south of us by a couple hours drive.

I took some better lighted pictures today.  Is there another place on the forum where I should post them?
