I'll be on the river today and the rest of the weekend south of 760 (Nocatee) . If you see me stop and say hi! We'll be staying on our property mostly but can travel if needed.

Good luck. Should be plenty of new stuff turned over after Ian :fingerscrossed:

Every once in a great while it's not just a big rock down there!

I legitimately feel bad that I have no idea what I am looking at here. We have found a lot this weekend and I'll post more pics soon. These are just some of the ones that I thought were "cool".

These are some of the "firsts" for me. We found a few decent teeth but a TON of stuff like this. It's all over our property and a lot of it is in rough shape but you can fill five gallon buckets with it. Should I post all of these in the ID help? If you have any pointers or if I'm on the wrong track let me know. Also for anyone heading to the peace there are more gators here than I have ever seen so be careful. They were all displaced from the storm. A lot of big ones on the river which is rare. Thanks for the support!

For the bottom two pictures the long "tubular" ones are going to be Dugong Rib Bone. It is super common but if you look at every peace carefully sometimes you can find a piece that a meg bit into and you can see the cuts from its teeth. If you find any like that make sure to keep it because they are super cool!

I'm not so sure about the other stuff. Maybe someone else can chime in on those.

If you don't get an answer by tomorrow I would post on "Fossil ID" as they certainly know what they are talking about and get you answers super fast.

Hello!

Wow, great finds! My boyfriend and I will be camping and fossil hunting on the Peace River on the 20th and 21st of February. Maybe we will see y’all out there?!?

3rd item looks like turtle shell.  I would post them in the Fossil ID section and make sure to number the pictures.

In your group picture with the measuring tape, the bottom left item looks to be a proximal phalanx from a horse.

Directly above it, it looks like you've got a horse tooth. Additional pictures, especially of the biting surface, would help to know more.

To the far left side, it looks like a small mammal rib.  Ribs can be notoriously hard to ID.

In your hand pictures, the third picture down shows a nice little vertebra.

Nice finds!  I think the forum would be better able to help you if you split some of these up into separate posts, especially the ones you're most curious about.  Good IDs generally rely on good lighting and multiple angles of the same item.

When there are numerous items in one post, things can get lost in the shuffle sometimes.

This hobby is very addictive...  You will get better fast...   I will just collect many of the IDs provided by others ,  and then take a shot at the rest....

1)  This is a rib.  Here is a photo of a rib from a very small dolphin Eurhinodelphis that was present in the peace river.. It is one possibility.. See the similarities.

2) This is a neat looking vertebra..  Please open a separate ID thread... it will get more attention. It seems to be a small vert as these thing go.. I am thinking dolphin but likely incorrect.

3) Looks like 2 Megs although left one might be a Mako

4) I need better /more photos..

5) Shell plates from a Softshell Turtle

6) Proximal Phalanx , likely Equus --- horse

5) Bone from large animal (Horse, Bison, Cow)  would need more photos to identify

6) Broken end of Cannon Bone... would need size to Identify... can be Bison, Cow, Llama

7) Your group shot seems to have Equus-Horse teeth,  but anything not addressed, open a fossil ID for..

8) Bison or Cow Cannon Bone

9) Dugong rib bones... Get used to finding these...

I will work on identifying 2) Vertebra unless someone gets it 1st....

Adding a couple of closeup -cropped photos for the Vert

I love this post... and how well you have collected, documented, and organized your loot.

The hurricane has worked its magic...

A couple nice shark teeth there...

Might wanna check around in that area, could be lots of other stuff that's easy pickins..

Good luck...
