tj102569
My wife and I are planning a trip to Vermont, new Hampshire and Maine this fall. Does anyone know where to fossil hunt or somewhere to rock hunt. We love it all? Thank you in advance
jpc
the very northwestern corner of VT has trilobites, but getting access to land is not easy. Someone recently posted here about their very nice VT trilobite. See if you can find that, but I wouldn;t count on actually finding anything. Top Trilo
@Mainefossils has posted some beautiful fossils found up there. 1 “If fossils are not "boggling" your mind then you are simply not doing it right” -Ken (digit) "No fossil is garbage, it´s just not completely preserved” -Franz (FranzBernhard) "With hammer in hand, the open horizon of time, and dear friends by my side, what can we not accomplish together?" -Kane (Kane) "We are in a way conquering time, reuniting members of a long lost family" -Quincy (Opabinia Blues) "I loved reading the trip reports, I loved the sharing, I loved the educational aspect, I loved the humor. It felt like home. It still does" -Mike (Pagurus) “The best deal I ever got was getting accepted as a member on The Fossil Forum. Not only got an invaluable pool of knowledge, but gained a loving family as well.” -Doren (caldigger) "it really is nice, to visit the oasis that is TFF" -Tim (fossildude19) "Life's Good! -Adam (Tidgy's Dad)
Mainefossils
I've lived in Maine for 6 years. Currently I'm visiting family in Texas, but I do know of some spots to go fossil hunting. I usually collect in an area called the Eastport Quadrangle - it's an area rich in Paleozoic fossils. If you want to send me a PM, I can give you some locations to try out. My favorite collecting spot is in the Leighton Formation - lots of stuff to find there, such as trilobites, brachiopods, and plenty of bivalves. I have some old maps to quite a few other fossil spots, but I haven't visited them and can't verify. Once again, send me a PM and I can show you some of them. There is a book that I use a lot, Maine's Fossil Record: The Paleozoic, it gives a comprehensive guide to Maine fossils. It also lists a lot of helpful literature that you can follow up on, learn more about a specific group you are interested in. Enjoy your vacation! 1 The more I learn, the more I find that I know nothing. Regards, Asher
