Hi all! I found this on the beach in York County Maine. I am trying to determine if it’s possibly a fossil or just a cool rock. Any ideas!

Sorry, this looks like metamorphic, or possibly igneous, rock. The shape comes from the dark band being more resistant to erosion.  The rocks now on the surface in southwestern Maine were exposed to a lot of volcanic intrusion, and high heat from the events that created the Appellation mountains. Any Paleozoic fossils would be from glacial material. Pleistocene fossils are found in the Presumpscot formation clays.

Thank you @Rockwood! It has the feeling of a rock, but the shaping and banding was too interesting I figured it was worth asking. Appreciate the knowledge here!
