Show us your shrimp fossil. A silly little thread or It could be shrimply fun.

A birthday gift of  MrsR this stunning and rare Carboniferous Muirhouse / Granton Fossilised Shrimp Bed, Edinburgh, Scotland.

Gorgeous example that has some exceptional Crangopsis specimens preserved upon it. Lower Carboniferous, some 359 to 323 million years ago.

I think it is worthwhile posting on the forum it a beauty.

cheers Bobby

Some of my better Oligocene ghost shrimp from the Olympic Peninsula, Washington State. I have a lot at this point, but these 3 are my best.

Here's my shrimp from Lebanon! I've found about half a dozen shrimp in the Greenriver Formation, but none of them were good splits and require some serious prep work... yippie. I've got a beautiful Carpopenaeus on a frankly gorgeous piece of matrix.

I also have a much rarer Sculda syriaca mantis shrimp!

I don’t have anything to contribute Bobby, but I have to say that Mrs. R did good in getting you that present (as she always does!). Beautiful!

Cheers all Bobby

Thanks for the comments, Bobby R.  This site was brought to our attention by a citizen collector who came in shortly after I started working here showing some cool fossil he had found at a construction site in town (which is completely underlain by Cretaceous Cody Shale).  Among them were two sets of these things.   The Cody Shale is known for ammonites that are found in concretions, but to find fossils in the shale itself was new and exciting.  Museum crews collected a few times there while the construction was going on, with the landowner's permission, of course.  We built a  nice collection that includes a lot of things not usually found in the Cody Shale, like these claws, two species of crab, several examples of echinoids and more.  I have a paper coming out eventually on this site.

Now back to your regularly scheduled shrimp program.

Thanks for the info , sounds like it was a great and very interesting spot to collect. I an glad your museum got a heads up and the chance to collect there before it was lost. Do you have other posts with finds from this location?  Cheers Bobby
