I found this in my backyard in a hole that my husband dug in southeast Missouri.  I thought it might be metal but the more I look at it the less it seems like metal. A magnet doesn't stick to it.   I have never seen anything like it. Feels like rock. Both sides are fairly symmetrical. It is 1.25" tall. 3B1D11C8-A97D-459C-89D3-2E0AEB9F1A72.thumb.jpeg.d43c269741a86af2f93c7c95f6d148bc.jpegB5ED92D8-FD27-4408-BA06-D7137CEE404D.thumb.jpeg.113f316f7b6692de9f2e80b89f079806.jpeg3E0479AA-28F4-4A22-9FC5-43849E8936FB.thumb.jpeg.49b0cda5892e1a3d0ffeca22a5aa6464.jpegE3D5A736-256F-488C-A297-BCF5E4ED5FFE.thumb.jpeg.32fb6adffe9ae6e1b0f3ae6ed7c54312.jpeg

I would suggest cleaning it with a toothbrush and some dish soap and adding a few more pictures, especially close-ups of the ends, so that we can get a better look at it. At this point, it vaguely resembles a few things to me, but I can't say with any certainty.

It looks like the northern half of Missouri has mostly marine fossils, but if you're in the southern area of the state, it's possible this could be a Pleistocene fossil.  But I couldn't rule out something man-made either yet.
