New guy here, hi yall .

Been browsing the site for a few days now .There are some very knowledgeable people here. So I found this while cleaning out a house. Didn't know the people so no information. I live in Southeast Texas, but no clue where it came from.

Any ideas ?

The root shape looks more like an Otodus obliquus or auriculatus.  Can we get a better side view of the root to see if it had cusps?

Tried to get better photos...hope this helps. But I think Ludwigia nailed it. Started researching hastalis. FossilGuy has a picture of teeth placement. Top jaw midway back looks like a dead ringer. But I don't know what I'm talking about. Hopefully these pictures will help.  I appreciate the help and look forward to hearing a definitive yea or nay in the future. Thank you guys and I'll see ya!

Thanks.  It appears to have a bourlette, though, which hastalis don't have.

I agree with Fin lover that the bourlette makes me think Otodus. Could we see a photo taken down the long axis of the tooth, i.e. with the point of the tooth aimed directly at the camera? This would let us look for the possibility of broken cusplets on either side of the blade, which would suggest obliquus or auriculatus.

Sorry guys...trying to position and shoot...I'm a rookie! Getting it best I can. Pictures may not be the greatest...but I can tell you it has no cusp. I don't know alot but I know what you're looking for and it's not there. Not saying you're not right...just none there.

I believe you that there isn't one there now, just trying to see if there is evidence that there once was cusps. :)

The third photo is exactly the view I was hoping for. I have to say I don't see the broken base of a former cusplet there as I expected. But this surface appears broken in a couple photos and the cusplet could have been there.

Just got home from Galveston Beach. When we got there yesterday, the tide was coming in. 2 steps into the shoreline, I found my first one! It was small, black, perfect little T shape. But playing with grandson, I lost it. So, I snuck out this morning before everyone got up. Perfect timing for low tide. Had about an hour, found this. Can't wait to go back and see what else is there. Any thoughts on this one?

Congratulations on your first tooth!  Hopefully, we can get an answer on the tooth you originally posted about.
