ziggycardon
Thank you all for the replies! I can really recommend these quarries to everyone who wants to go, as they are well worth it. They are also easily accessable. Here are some of my finds Most of the stuff I have already put away in boxes for futher preparation, this is far from everything I have found. Just some of the better pieces which I already have on display. A fishhead found on day 3 in the Mörnsheim Formation, Besuchersteinbruch, Muhlheim A coprolite probably from a cephalopod or a maybe even a fish found on day 3 in the Mörnsheim Formation, Besuchersteinbruch, Muhlheim A nice Lamellaptychus lamellosus found on day 1 in the Mörnsheim Formation, BGM, Solnhofen. These aptychi are probably my favorite fossils from the entire trip An ammonite (Neochetoceras steraspis) found on day 3 in the Mörnsheim Formation, Besuchersteinbruch, Muhlheim One of many fishscales I have found on day 2 at the Solnhofen Formation, Bergér Quarry, Blumenberg, Eichstätt My split plate with 3 gorgeous Saccocoma tenella crinoïds found on day 2 at the Solnhofen Formation, Bergér Quarry, Blumenberg, Eichstätt My personal best find of trip, images truly don't do this piece justice. A piece of vomit according to Jonathan. Are relatively common, though no one really knows who made them. Found on day 2 at the Solnhofen Formation, Bergér Quarry, Blumenberg, Eichstätt A lovely formed coprolite found on day 2 at the Solnhofen Formation, Bergér Quarry, Blumenberg, Eichstätt A tiny ammonite found on day 2 at the Solnhofen Formation, Bergér Quarry, Blumenberg, Eichstätt On of the rarer finds from myself, a couple of bivalves found on day 1 at the Mörnsheim Formation, BGM, Solnhofen An ammonite (Subplanites sp.) found on day 3 at the Mörnsheim Formation, Besuchersteinbruch, Muhlheim A coprolite, possibly reptilian (crocodile) found on day 1 at the Mörnsheim Formation, BGM, Solnhofen. Still has to be prepped out better, will probably ask some help from Jonathan when he is back from his excavation in Wyoming. 4 Interested in all things paleontology, geology, zoology, evolution, natural history and science! ziggycardon
A large coprolite with fish inclusions found on day 3 at the Mörnsheim Formation, Besuchersteinbruch, Muhlheim Multiple coprolites found on day 1 at the Mörnsheim Formation, BGM, Solnhofen Multiple Lamellaptychus lamellosus found on day 1 at the Mörnsheim Formation, BGM, Solnhofen An ammonite (Neochetoceras steraspis) found on day 3 in the Mörnsheim Formation, Besuchersteinbruch, Muhlheim I have a lot more ammonites from day 1 & 3, coprolites from all 3 days, Saccocoma's from day 2 and fish scales from day 2 & 3. But most of these I have already placed in boxes for further prep and some just for secret santa and stuff These were mainly the best pieces so if you have seen these, you have almost seem them all. I still have 1 or 2 fishes that are still entombed which I hope to prep in the futures as well as a nice sponge which Jonathan agreed to helped me with next time I see him at Boxtel. So these fossils will hopefully one day be shown at the forum as well Edited June 4, 2023 by ziggycardon 4 Interested in all things paleontology, geology, zoology, evolution, natural history and science! pachy-pleuro-whatnot-odon
Excellent finds, Ken! Guess they just get overshadowed by all the other amazing fossils that the area is known for 1 Interested in all things paleontology, geology, zoology, evolution, natural history and science! Mart1980
Fantastic trip and sublime report! Very nice to read and see the pictures. The museum looks like the heaven of Solnhofen fossils, what I see there is extraordinary. Thank you very much for this reporting.
ezeemonee
Amazing variety of fossils there! I have seen a butterfly fossil at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington DC. I wonder if it came from here too!
