I was told by one of my professors that this is a skull from a Miocene cave bear from Nebraska, but it looks exactly like a Merycoidodon skull to me.

I think you’re right with that identification but wait till others come in. Its a very nice looking skull!

Cave bears proper, that is Ursus spelaeus, is a species of pleistocene Eurasia. And yes, you got a Merycoidodon.

It was not a Professor of vertebrate palaeontology who told you, was he?

She's more into invertebrates and microbes. Does a lot of work in the Drakes formation and other Ordovician sites.
