One thing we know is that skin would not fossilize and claws don't have skin covering them--keratin-based horny fingernail like sheath over a claw core (but not skin). Cheers. -Ken
Mahnmut
Hello and welcome to the forum. Sorry to say its a wood burl (the hard part that shows as a knothole when cut and often the last thing remaining after the softer parts disintegrate. wlb93
I found another bone next to it I'm working right now sending a photo shortly.
Mahnmut
Go ahead, I´d like to see that bone. But the thing in the pictures above has many features of branch wood, including wood grain. (wood burl was not the right term, sorry, English is not my first language). On the other side it has no detail features of a claw or tooth except the general shape. If its heavy, it may be petrified wood, and a nice piece. If its rather light, its a fun shaped piece of wood. I rarely make absolute statements like this based on a foto, but here I am sure. Trust a fossil nerd and beachcomber on that.
