Found this loose in southwest Missouri. Looks like petrified wood to me. Am I correct?

Doesn't look like petrified wood to me, either.

My favorite things about fossil hunting: getting out of my own head, getting into nature and, if I’m lucky, finding some cool souvenirs.

It's difficult to tell for certain from these photos, but this looks like a suggestive piece of sandstone to me.

Petrified wood is extremely hard compared to many other rocks.  Again, it's hard to tell from photos, but several angles of this piece appear to be soft and susceptible to flaking, which would be consistent with a type of hard clay or sandstone.

I'm not sure what you mean by sand cast mold, but for my part, I see no sign of fossil material.

I do think it's an interesting piece that I probably would've picked up to take a closer look at.
