Daze

Recommended Posts

According to the seller this is a parietal skull bone from a Kem Kem theropod, likely abelisaurus or carchadorontosaurus. Opinions?

Size: 19 cm (7.48 inch)

There is no Tegana Formation in the Kem Kem or in Morocco, though it's a common mistake.

There is a Tegama Formation of Cretaceous age in Niger which may have been the start of this.

The Kem Kem Group comprises different formations in different areas.

Looks like a midline element to me, so not parietal. No idea if theropod.

Reconsidering, as the two parietals join at the midline, symmetry alone does not exclude parietals.

My first impression was somewhere around the skull base of a crocodilian, but I am not familiar enough with dinosaurian anatomy to rule them out.

Best Regards,

J

Thanks, my impression also was that it's Crocodilian. It doesn't match any of the dinosaur skull bones that I've seen. It's been sold in the meantime anyway.
