My Collection of Victorian Geology and Palaeontology Books and Literature

I decided to start a thread on my collection of books, letters and associated paraphernalia from Victorian geologists and palaeontologists.

To kick things off, here is a first edition of The Geology of the South East of England by Gideon Mantell. Published in 1833, it contains multiple plates along with a drawing of a fossil of hylaeosaurus; the third dinosaur ever to be named.

First edition of The Outlines of the Geology of England and Wales by William Daniel Conybeare and William Philips. The book was published in 1822 and whilst it is Part 1, Part 2 was never published.

Conybeare was the Dean of Llandaff Cathedral in Cardiff where I was born. He was linked to William Buckland, Mary Anning and other eminent people in the early field of palaeontology and geology.

Conybeare was the first person to describe plesiosaurus.

A lovely example of pre-Victorian paleo-lit! The title page typography is certainly of its time and quite a splendid volume overall.
