Charcole
This was found in northern Arkansas. I don't know much about it or fossils in general, but I'm very interested in learning. I'm just wondering if this is a rare specimen or any information at all. It seems to be in good condition to my untrained eye and I was excited when we found it.
Ludwigia
I believe that the sediments in Northern Arkansas are Paleozoic in age, which means that they are quite old. Your fossil appears to me to be a Maclurites gastropod, not uncommon for these layers. 3 Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Fossildude19
I agree with a common, Maclurites sp. gastropod. Nice find! minnbuckeye
I agree this is a species of Maclurites, a gastropod that lived during the Ordovician Period. That makes it 444million to 488 Million years old! It is a nice find. They are not rare finds. But with that said, I am happy to find one any time I explore the Ordovician. Click on Maclurites Galore!! It shows a special trip that I experienced this summer. 1
Tidgy's Dad
Not uncommon, but still a nice find. Life's Good! Tortoise Friend.
Mark Kmiecik
It's a keeper! Mark. Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!
