I think it's likely that they're real, as no-one faking or compositing fossils would deliberately leave one of them as only half preserved. They would fully 'enhance' it, to increase its 'beauty' and salability. I would definitely buy them if they're at a good price; they look gorgeous, and I love fossil slabs with multiple specimens in different layers.
