gnatbuggo
Hi all! i hope this is the right spot to post this. I am heading to Nova scotia soon and will be in the New glasgow/antigonish area. What sort of fossils are found there (if any) and are there any good spots around there i should know about? thank you in advance
Kane
Nova Scotia does not permit fossil collecting. You can always visit the Joggins Cliffs and associated museum for Carboniferous fossils, but you can only look and not keep. Unfortunately, it is closed for the season. https://jogginsfossilcliffs.net 4 ...How to Philosophize with a Hammer
FossilDAWG
Nova Scotia is a beautiful place with lots to see and places to go. I hope you have a great time! Just don't collect any fossils unfortunately. "Normal" tourist activities only. I was born there, but with the laws in force I'm glad I don't live there. FossilDAWG
That looks like it could be fun. However if you read to the bottom you can't take fossils with you, so it's really a guided tour not a collecting trip. Don 1
MikeR
What year was the ban in Nova Scotia put in place? Jeffrey P
You may want to also check out the Parrsboro area. Triassic fossils, including dinosaurs and other reptiles. No collecting there, but there are exhibits and tours.
Kane
Although you will not be able to collect fossils, do enjoy their fish and chips -- bar none, the best in Canada, among some of the friendliest people. 1 1 ...How to Philosophize with a Hammer
saphirequasar
Hi all, I don't think there is a province-wide ban on fossil hunting. The "special places" legislation designates specific places. This is the list I just found: There are currently six designated Special Places in Nova Scotia: Joggins Fossil Cliffs; Parrsboro Fossil Site; Debert Palaeo-Indian Site; Fletcher Lock (Shubenacadie Canal); Port Morien Old French Coal Mine; and, Belleisle. https://cch.novascotia.ca/exploring-our-past/special-places/getting-site-designated-special-place

Missourian
I'm glad I live in a state that doesn't know it has fossils. 2 1 Context is critical.
