New Members Limey Posted October 28, 2023 New Members Share Posted October 28, 2023 I was walking around the other day and found some rock that resembled slate but was full of some black specks. Can someone tell me if the specks were originally mineral deposits or perhaps more organic in origin? There is quite a lot of this rock in the valley I was in. fifbrindacier
I also think it is a cristallisation. 1 "On ne voit bien que par le coeur, l'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux." It doesn't look like typical mica inclusions like in granite.
fifbrindacier
No. I agree, it's not granite. "On ne voit bien que par le coeur, l'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux." fifbrindacier
Could it be some kind of Oolitic structure ? "On ne voit bien que par le coeur, l'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux." FranzBernhard
Looks like a low- to intermediate-grade metamorphic rock with some sort of dark clasts. But nothing familiar does really fit, so no guess for the blasts! Franz Bernhard
New Members Limey Posted November 3, 2023 Author New Members Share Posted November 3, 2023 Thanks all, it's rather a mystery. I'm going to go this weekend to try to find more. It's in an area that is predominantly sandstone.
fifbrindacier
@Tidgy's Dadwas right since the beginning, it's a compact quartz dorite saprock, see that article : https://www.researchgate.net/figure/a-General-view-of-regolith-saprolite-and-saprock-levels-in-granodiorite-profile-I-b_fig2_344236682 1 "On ne voit bien que par le coeur, l'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux."
