Definitely a rock, you can see the sedimentary rock layers in this image especially which is not at all like bone structure. Still, I'd be lying if I said it didn't look pretty cool.

This looks like a rock that someone dunked in a vat of acid. Looks exactly like acid etching.

I have encountered very similar pieces in water-tumbled Devonian erratics. This seems a good example of differential weathering where softer material is eroded away, leaving the hardier minerals to remain.

Welp...thanks for the info but there's teeth and a Brain stem noticable from the back. Definite upper and lower lip separation at the front of his mouth. Def not just a rock.

Sorry meant to ad that it was found on the edge of a river...water flow and sand has certainly done its job on one side.

 It’s still just a Rock:D

At this point, I would suggest taking it to a local museum, University paleontology or geology department, etc. to have an expert look at it with you.

My favorite things about fossil hunting: getting out of my own head, getting into nature and, if I’m lucky, finding some cool souvenirs.

but when the museum folks tell you that it is a rock, consider that they are seasoned pros and have seen a lot of fossils and rocks.  I say this as a museum professional and paleo guy with 40 years of experience who has wasted too many hours with folks who will not take "it is a rock" as an answer.   We are here to educate, not to tell you that you are wrong.

edit:  and not for folks to tell me I am wrong.  Not that I am never wrong... (see the recent post about the White River jaw that I thought was a rhino).

This is not helpful location info.

Country, state, and county if you really want info on this item.

No, none of those things are there.  This is NOT a skull, it is not any part of a skull.  There is no brain stem (that wont even fossilize), nor are there teeth.  This is a rock and nothing more than a rock.

found on the edge of a river is completely meaningless to try to determine the age and identity of an (actual) fossil.

I actually don’t think it’s a rock… I think it’s an old weathered piece of a concrete sculpture. I think I can see the mold lines in these two pictures. Cheap concrete will flake and spall like that when it weathers…

I have to agree with the statuary opinion. Maybe someone made it and didn't like it and threw it in the river.

The OP has responded with insults and derision, as is typical of these cases.  :s_confused:  :eyeroll:

Topic is now locked, and we wish the OP the best of luck with his rock.  ;)
