aldo66
Hello, I am having a big identification problem with this cardium discovered in the zanclean in the south of France. its structure makes me think of "lyrocardium" or perhaps "discors" but, despite numerous searches, I cannot find this species. The only recent one that comes close is "lyrocardium aeolicum" from Cape Verde, but it is still different. So I appeal to your knowledge. size 45mm Thanks in advance

aldo66
This is the first time that I have been able to take out an entire valve, they are extremely fragile and the other two that I have come across over several years have come out in pieces. I add that the gloss is completely original

MikeR
Perhaps Parvicardium minimum (Philippi, 1836). The specimen in the link is from the Lower Pliocene of Italy. https://fossilshells.nl/itpli215.html 3 1 "A problem solved is a problem caused"--Karl Pilkington "I was dead for millions of years before I was born and it never inconvenienced me a bit." -- Mark Twain
aldo66
The shell indicated corresponds well to my specimen, unfortunately I think that the identification of the site is incorrect parvidardium minimum is rather this shell: https://conchsoc.org/taxonomy/term/
aldo66
A specialist in this area identified this specimen to me as "Lyrocardium aeolicum". A species still alive in the Cape Verde archipelago but extinct in the Mediterranean
