And HEIC format doesn't work. And size ?

And what means : ""It is what it is" "if u want something done right, do it yourself" ? A good idea, but why here ?

Coco, maybe he is confused by what the "Quote" box is for.

Hi,

OK @JPC but what I don’t understand is where that quote came from and why it’s there. Are you suggesting that OP put it in without knowing how he ended up there? Possible...

@Coco, those are commonly used/popular quotes in the U.S., so I am guessing he saw the Quote button and misunderstood what it was for, so he added some quotes that he likes.  That's just a guess, but I've seen hospital employees where I work that add quotes they like to their professional email signatures (which seems unprofessional to me), so maybe we use quotes more in the States.

I took the liberty of converting the .HEIC files to .JPG.

@Brandy Cole    The area is Pliocene/Neogene, so, Belemnites are a no-go. Aurora, NC.

Looks more like a cetecean tooth to me.

Maybe @Boesse  can chime in. Or @sixgill pete, @MarcoSr , @Al Dente

Definitely the root of a mammal tooth.  If it is from Aurora, then it is  most likely to be a marine mammal tooth.

That's quite an understandable and entertaining mistake. I may have to do that more often for fun :ighappy:

Im James, and have recently dove into fossil hunting after spending several nights reading and researching I ended up choosing Aurora NC for my 1st Trip. Then on my way home we hit the infamous GMR. (People have destroyed parts of that creek) Anyway,

I found this piece either in Aurora nc digging the pits or the GMR on the way back home. I'd hit both locations that weekend and didn't think anything of it. Then after getting home and looking through what I'd found that weekend, this piece is the only one to me that's unidentifiable.

Yeah. It said "quote" so I assumed that it meant write a quote from something I liked. So what does the quote box mean?

I got it now. My 1st time navigating on here as far as posting. Normally I'm on forums for acquiring information and looking but decided to finally post. And posted the 2nd time not knowing the 1st post even went through Monday. And after posting tonight I then realized the picture problem along with the 1st post.

  • 4 weeks later...

This very much strikes me as being consistent with GMR preservation. Not sure what it is - it's a tooth root, and looks a bit like an archaeocete at that - but could come from any number of cetaceans with double rooted teeth or perhaps even a land mammal. Identification further than that is probably speculative.
