Lmilly
I found this specimen in a dried creek-bed in Pennsylvania, USA. I previously found beautiful petrified wood pieces in the same exact spot (I assume they are petrified wood based on some research I did). The matrix of this specimen has similarities to some of the petrified wood pieces I came across while exploring that creek-bed. From my untrained eye, it looks like tiny creatures latched onto this wood before petrification. There appears to be 3 of the same species all sitting closely together. One of the three looks like it was cut in half at some point and now displays a perfect cross section...possibly of its nervous system...?! There are lines trailing behind the circles (for lack of better words), giving the appearance of tentacles or antennas of some sort? Fossildude19
Welcome to the Forum. (Sorry, forgot that in my last post! ) Thanks for the re-formatted pictures! What county were these found in? Location allows us to narrow down the stratigraphy and the geology of the area. The item does not look like Petrified wood, to me. And the three bumps look more like Concretions, than fossils, to me. Lmilly
Thank you! I’m exciting to learn from this community Montgomery County! here are a few of the pieces I suspect to be petrified wood (maybe it will help explain why I originally thought the circles were on petrified wood)
