Black Friday Fossil Deals in New York!

Darktooth

Recommended Posts

Friday I was able to take advantage of having the day off from work with no Honey-do list to bog me down. What is a Man to do? Go on a fossilhunt of course! It had been awhile since my last hunt in New Jersey so I was due.

I almost didn't go as I wasn't feeling the best, but I decided not to let that ruin the day. I spent about 5 hours digging in 30° weather. It did snow for about the last hour or 2, but it didn't bother me. I moved alot of rock and was rewarded with some Goodies. My favorite finds were some Greenops trilobites. Also found some nice brachiopods and bivalves. There is some plant material found at the site. So far I had only found single isolated branches but this time I found a piece with multiple branches. I hope you will enjoy!

Great finds, Dave!   :)
Glad you were able to get out for a bit.
Hope you're feeling better now - these colds have been sticking around for some weeks.

Interesting plant, and the brachs and bivalves are always wonderful from that site too... Kudos for going out under the weather (in more ways that one). I don't generally collect in the winter, maybe I'm a wuss, but also the shale over here is not so conducive to collecting when it's wet.

It was about a month ago that my wife got sick, followed by my youngest son. Some time went by and it was looking like it was going to pass me by. Well then I got it for about a week and then I got better. Then I woke up this past Wednesday feeling like snarge again.  Yesterday my older Son left work early because his stomach hurt. He gets home and throws up all over the bathroom! Yeah we are doing great in my household.

But being the die-hard fossilhunter that I am I had to try and get out atleast one last time before the snow flies and decides to stick around for awhile.

Sorry to hear the bug is working its way through your household, Dave. still, you're a real trooper for getting out there! We have a bit of the white stuff up here now, so it won't be long until we're all buried for a few months (at least for us northern folk).

99% of the slabs you see surrounding the orange bucket is what I moved on Friday. I am hoping to get back and move just as much atleast 1 more time.

Great report Dave and great finds, especially the Greenops trilobites, the Goniophora and Leiopteria bivalves, and the Tropidoleptus (brachiopod in the last photo), which aren't too common there. Glad you were able to take advantage of a small window of opportunity. Congratulations and thanks for sharing.

@Darktooth that's a lotta rock! I'm hoping to get out to DSR on the 9th for one last hurrah, weather permitting. Maybe I'll see you there!

Unfortunately I will be busy on the 9th otherwise I would be there.:s_cry:

Yikes... I see it happening over here too (well, not that bad... yet). A friend of mine has had all his shots but still has come down with something. :Confused05: As he says, I guess it's hibernation time again.

Get well soon, y'all.

Looks like you had a great trip with some beautiful Greenops to boot! I can’t say I don’t envy the beautiful Devonian preservation you have there in NY.

Down here we’re also getting our fist taste of winter, though perhaps we should count ourselves lucky that the snow hasn’t hit yet!
