If this is a rock you win the award for “rock looking most like bone”  for this week. Congratulations! The competition for rock IDs this week has been pretty thick!

This actually looks like bone to me.

Can we get pictures of the ends of the item?

Yes I will add them soon I’m trying to get the caked up mud off the ends so I can see what’s underneath. Any suggestions on how to do that?

If it's just mud, an old toothbrush and water should work.

My favorite things about fossil hunting: getting out of my own head, getting into nature and, if I’m lucky, finding some cool souvenirs.

Dang I was all bone until the end views.. I think it’s a marvelous bone looking rock

Funny.. I am of exactly the opposite opinion.  Based on the photos, I think this is a bone.  The end view is more boneish than not.

I guess I’m used to a particular preservation/ mineralization signature which may not apply here.. JPC has much more experience in this, so I’d lean his way

yeah, marine reptile bones I am familiar with often have this sort of preservation.  I see someone else suggested maybe a plesiosaur bone.

Really ?! Omg that would literally be the best thing that’s ever happened to me ! I’ve never found a fossil let alone something that cool
