Hi, I have several recent finds, all on one property, here in N. W. CT. These finds are new to the area, and I first want to show photos of petrified wood, I have found here, in several different varieties, including different types of rocks making them up.

assuming this is from northwestern Connecticut.  I think about half of our crowd is international and NW CT means nothing.  Heck, Northwest Connecticut may still not meanmuch to a lot of out of towners countriers.

Thanks so much for the warm welcome! Morocco, wow!! Sounds like a beautiful place to live! It is cold here right now, and I miss being able to be outside for hours and hours, especially with the long summer solstice days. Anyway I have many many pieces, and I will try to post them in a neater manner. I hope you enjoy them, and little by little, I will provide the story of my rock hounding addiction!

Welcome to the Forum  from Central Connecticut.   :)

Unfortunately, paleontologically speaking, North Western Connecticut does not have much (if any) sedimentary rock available that would contain fossils. :(

Fossil bearing rocks only outcrop or are exposed on either side of the Connecticut River, ( Hartford Basin)  and two very small basins in Southbury  (Pomperaug  Basin)  and Canton (Cherry Brook Outlier).

Most of your pictures appear to be metamorphic rocks. :(

I'm not aware of any instances or anecdotes of fossil wood being found elsewhere in CT.

We are still enjoying nice warm sunny days, but it does get to only a few degrees above freezing at night. Cold.gif.761d7cdee2805afef472b72abe325c9d.gif

We shouldn't use words that don't exist like "meanmuch" and "countriers", because our non-English-speaking members won't be able to translate them into anything meaningful. :heartylaugh:By the way, what is a "lot of out of"? Is that like something from nothing?

Also, welcome from Illinois, United States of America, North American continent just north of South America and slightly west of Greenland.

Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!

Hello Gaila, I live in the suburbs just outside of Syracuse. My in-laws (who are both originally from Missouri ) were living in Middletown until they retired a few years back.

Hi Gaila,

Welcome! I am also a central CT collector (actually most of our stuff is from PA). I concur with Tim those look like metamorphic rock and you'd be very unlikely to find fossils in that area. Of course, not too far is the world famous Gilboa Devonian forest in NY.  One of my goals this year is to finally get there!
